2019 Bubba Goat Orienteering
October 19 - 09:00 to 13:00Price: Free
The Goat That Was
Thanks to all who came to the 2019 Southeast Region’s Bubba Goat held at Kings Mountain National Military Park on October 19, 2019. Perfect weather / Perfect courses / Perfect terrain all made for a great orienteering event.
The map was brand new with attribution to Ed Hicks (LIDAR & Basemap) and Bob Burg (field-checking). The COK is especially thankful to Ranger Leah Tabor and the National Park Service for their support and for allowing orienteering on such hallowed ground.
A special mention is in order for two folks who kept the Bubba Goat tradition alive by wearing ol’ timey clothes worthy of any Appalachian holler: Dan Davis in bib overalls ala HeeHaw and Ian McLaughlin in Jethro Bodine attire (Ian twisted his ankle – so we all wish him speedy recovery).
Kudos are in order for great volunteers who helped make the event possible:
- Josef Trzicky (course design / setting)
- Tricia Burd (swag)
- Robbi & Phyllis (registration)
- Davd Hoesly (time-keeping)
- Matthew Getz* (control pickup)
- Walter Siegenthaler (map printing)
*Matt represents a COK partner organization – North Carolina Adventure Racers
The club computer with event software wasn’t available – so, the results cannot include split times.
